Happy New Year!Thank you to everyone that has followed my blog and those who have visited the site...The new year has started and its the time of year that many people reflect over the last year and decide what is going to happen differently in the new year. I am no different and I have decided to make some changes in my life. Sunday, Bishop W.C. Hunter my Pastor and mentor preached a message that has catapulted my thinking into a new direction. I was stuck in the past literally. My thinking was stuck on a part of my life that has changed dramatically in the last year. One day I felt like I was on top of the world and the next day everything changed and I could not get over that hurdle in my life. Sometimes we get stuck on the good memories that we used to have and so hung up on what could've been that we stop moving forward. I didn't try to get caught up in my past. I just was so shocked and hurt that I didn't realize that I wasn't really interested in creating new great memories. I felt like I was just going through the motions of my days and nights. I poured a lot into this situation and I got to the point that I was so tired mentally and just drained. I did everything I could on my part to make this particular situation in my life work :-) But alas, its time for me to back away and let the past go and look forward to new experiences! We live and we learn and this has truly been a lesson learned for me. I am in a new place and I find myself smiling more. Our mind is like a tape recorder and it replays the events in our life over and over until we create new memories to play in our mind. I was replaying the good memories that I have had and trying to forget the bad memories but replaying the good memories can be just as bad because you are still replaying the past. I will not let my past interfere with my present. I will reach forward to those things that are before me. I will monitor my thoughts! All of the experiences in my life have helped to create the woman that I am. I can not control what happens around me but I can control my actions and I am not the same person that I used to be. I am reaching forward and living in the present!

#NoriCares 1st "Big Give Back"

WOW!!!! I was overwhelmed with the people that responded and gave/donated to Nori Cares. For me this is a dream realized and I plan to keep going. I was just so excited and happy to be set up and moving on the project. The give-a-way was held on September 3rd at the Avondale Recreation center. This was the center I spent many summers playing and doing homework from elementary through high school. Everyone at the center was so welcoming and everyone had words of encouragement. It was awesome to have the give back at this location. I thank Jesus for the many people we were able to bless on that morning. Its all about being blessed and a blessing to someone else.

*** A special thank you to Carver Recreation center; this was the first place I had donation drop-offs courtesy of Radiant Star Chapter 859 and Zion Hill Chapter 249 for allowing me to team up for their annual "Rep Your City" community event. This is when I knew I was doing something greater than I hoped for. I did take a pic at my booth I had set up and also here is the logo for Nori Cares!

Ive had the opportunity to speak in the TN and GA schools systems with First Things First about healthy relationships and dating! Working with the First Things First organization and Power 94.3 WJTT I have been blessed to help many young people.

Can men & women be JUST friends?

I have thought of this question more often then not. I just watched the movie, "Life As We Know It". I find it interesting how two people who tried to date years ago, who did not like each at all could end up together. (If you have not seen the movie you should watch it... not gonna explain the whole movie.) It is simple YES, as long they do not put themselves in a situation that will allow them to engage in sexual activities. I have to say even the strongest, most committed person can fall short and make a HUGE mistake. Men and women were designed to be attracted to one another. You do not have to believe me but put my theory to the test. Ex: Put a man and a women in a room together alone a week or even over night and what will happen is by the time they leave they will have discovered qualities that they like about each other. It can vary from that persons physical attributes to their personality or mannerisms. Give the thoughts time to manifest and what will happen is they might find themselves thinking of this person especially if they were in any way attracted to them. The mind is quite powerful and thoughts can quickly turn into actions. It may go from hanging out, to watching movies to, touching and feeling and well you know where Im headed with this. So in essence yes, they can as long as they do not cross delicate boundaries and don't put them in any situations where something physical can happen. Please share you thoughts in the comments section.

P.S. If you have a great relationship don't put yourself in the position to mess up a good thing. You never miss a good things until its gone.

Im hating, why because I dont fly Delta and something tells me that all these impromptu performances are happening on Delta flights. Dang those cheap Air Tran flights and there online discounts. I need to see a free show of my favorite artists getting down on intercoms. I mean really first Kanye spit on a flight and now B.O.B. I was looking at one of the many blogs I visit daily and I came across this question. I thought about it and thought about it and came to one conclusion. YES! In a New York minute I would. I thought over my past relationships and I even evaluated the God sent relationship that I am in now and I knew I would want my future son to marry a woman like me. I have not been the most successful at relationshipss in the past (because I fell for guys that were not meant for me) but I am stonger and wiser because of the life experiences I learned. I have been blessed to be a virtuous woman. I am NOT PERFECT but I am the woman that God want me to be. That is patient, loyal, high integrity, a lover, faither, and giver amoung other things :-) When I am with a man I am with him ONLY. (As they say in the streets, ride or die chick.) I beleive that we are unstoppable together. We are inlove kindred spirits and compliment and add to each others lives. So yes, in a heart beat I would want my future son to marry a woman like me just as I am today. He would have a woman that is his help mate and will hold him up and always repect him as the man his is. I dont know when my future son will arrive on this earth (NO.Im not preggers), I dont even know what his name will be yet and I am already proud of him!

Every since I heard Jill Scott "He Loves Me" I knew that I wanted to feel this way about someone. Its a great song but the answer is does she/he love you back? Actions will always over rule what a person is saying. When you care of about someone you show it. You do for them unselfishly and you may go lacking to make sure that person have. Snow Day... REALLY?

It is so funny to me that in the beautiful city that I live in that everyone is afraid of snow. Grant it that we do not get snow often and on a few occassions the snow has gotten ridiculous but not this weekend. I know a place were more than 20 twenty people called in out of work because of the two inches of snow that the city had. Im sorry but I refuse to beleive that all of those people lived on a hill... lol. That is the main excuse that most people like to use here when they can't make it to work. Now, I really do live on a hill so I made the executive decision last night when I got home to park at the bottom of the hill. Here is an example of how light of snow we had about the time morning came.
Now do you think I was gonna miss work for this... NOPE! I will say that in some places there was more ice on the ground than others. I hope everyone enjoyed there snow day and my good people use those call in days for when you really need them.

I sat down recently with the group to discuss the state of their music and why they feel they are the group that got next. Dustin T. is definitely the most outspoken of the two while Mike C. is the more chilled out one. As I talked to them I noticed how Dustin sat up and was very animated while Mike was cool and a bit more calculated. It is always fun to meet the people behind the music because they are never what you expect them to be. When I looked at Dustin I was like I know he not singing... but surprising he was very proud of his voice and his music. These cats met each by battle rapping and singing in Highland Park or as we call it in Chatt-Town (HP) years ago.Once they formed the group they knew that did not want to be fantasy rappers. "There is nothing wrong with saying you have never had nothing as long as you want something", Dustin said to me and I could not agree more. They have been doing shows around the city and they believe in performing their own music and told me they would rather do an album than a mixtape and jack beats. I found this very interesting because most artist use mixtapes as a launching pad and these dudes decided to go another route. I think originality is all good when people want to hear what you have to say. Then again that is the beauty of music make people want to listen to what you have to say. With that being said lets see what they talking about in their music.

Hmmm this was definitely not what I expected. This song almost sound like techno music. I would say that in the long run music like this has more of a chance of crossing over. It is good for all people. It makes you want to move. I like the singing and I could get into this track.

From the time this track started I could tell it was more hood than the last record. It is cool and I think they have a sound here in the city that is very recognizable. They could do somethings with there music if they really stay on it. I would recommend getting their music mixed and mastered better and working on their image but they are Sumthan vicious indeed. I will say that this is not just a stand out record but good just to get out to people none the less. These fellas are doing their thing and performing making a name for themselves. They are from humble beginnings and when they blow big will not forget where they come from.

Resolution... NOT!!! Just Keep Moving Forward

To have.... or not to have a new years resolution! I personally, do not make New Years resolutions anymore. I used to make them but they were things I knew in the back of my mind I was not going to do... EXAMPLE. I would say, oh this year I am going to work out. Oh this year I am going to make X amount of dollars. Yes, I can do these things but realistically I did not have a plan or strategy of how I would do all these things. This year I do have a plan and I have a visual for that plan. It is amazing to experience and live in my maturity. I have grown up! I mean I have really started to learn who I am and what I like and what I want. Most importantly I am learning to be still and listen to quiet voice of God. The father has truly moved in my life and I have seen him also move the hearts of man. I know what I want going forward in 2010 and I am going to get it. I am moving my show in a new direction in this New Year as well as the content of this blog. I will still highlight and showcase new artists but there will be a lot more versitiliy in the content. I will be more open with you about my life and about what I see on a day to day basis. I will also quit trying to be so soft when it comes to letting these artist know what I like and dont like about there music. Trust me this industry is much more than good music and as I grow and learn I will share with you. I guess you can call this the introduction for the New Year. I will also post weekly on this blog make sure to check back and see whats next...just know that I will and I encourage you to just keep moving forward. Failures are the stepping stones to success :-)

Top 10 List of things an artist NEED to do!!!!

10. Read and Study.... become educated on the business that you want to be apart of so bad. If you are a hip-hop artist or an R&B artist become a learner of your craft and those that paved the way for you to be the artist that you are.

9. Learn to adapt, never get stuck in your ways... music is ever changing and if you really want to be apart of this industry stay one step ahead.

8.Protect your music and your originality. You need to get your music copy righted so that no one can ever steal your material. If someone does try to take your music you can have the proper paper work to show you were the originator of the music you can get your just do.

7. Your music need to be registered. Your music need to have bar codes so that you can show up on BDS. This is how record reps, A&R executives and people in the industry can keep up with what radio stations around the country are playing your songs and how many times.

6. Do not be a hater... support other artist trying to make it because you will need and want the same support. If Marvin Gaye hated on Stevie Wonder where would be music be today? Support others and you will in return get support.

5. Performing is key. Learn how to be a performer instead of a person on stage yelling into the mic. Book as many performances your schedule will allow. This builds a strong fan base and it is great practice.

4. Presentation is everything... make sure that your music is packaged professionally. If you are giving your music to people make sure that it is well prepared and the information is in the right order. (Never write on a CD and think people are going to take your seriously)Invest in printed labels for your music. You need the name of the artist or group, name of the song... If you have to go to a music store FYE or music section in Wal-Mart look at how a real package look and do your best to duplicate it.

3. Give your music to DJ's... not people who claim to be DJ's but the one's that spin regularly in clubs. A DJ is your best tool when trying to get your record played and recognized.

2. Get total strangers to listen to your music. Don't tell them it is you until you get their honest feed back. Your mama, family and friends may not tell you that the song sucks because they don't want to hurt your feelings but a total stranger will tell you if your music is good or not. Let more than a few people listen to your music, get the opinions of a lot of people so that you have a variety of feedback to work with. It only makes you better.

1. Never Stop Grinding.... get your name out there in the streets and where ever you go leave a CD. Word of mouth is powerful, the more people talk the better. PROMOTE, PROMOTE, PROMOTE... rep your music when no one else do. Use the free networking sites to your advantage. Building relationships with people and use those connections to promote your music. You are your biggest fan.

You want to know why I like King Lathan aka Big C's music? I like it because he is not afraid to take risks. He is adventurous with his creativity and that alone will make room for him in the hectic industry that everyone and there mama want to be apart of. I was acquainted with his music way before I knew who he really was. He is a street Flava All Star. I can not tell you how may weeks this man reigned on the air but he definitely has a nice fan base in the city. He has a upcoming mixed type called, "Best of All Worlds" and the title is fitting. He has two names that people know him by in the streets and I have decided that I prefer King Lathan so that is what I will call him through out this feature. He says that is music can not be classified into one genre. He thinks he can do it and I mean why not! He does alternative, rock, rave and hip-hop music. I can dig that. He has only been rapping for 3 years but I would agree with him that he can paint pictures with his music. He started out making music for his enjoyment but has decided to consider his audience. He refuses to entertain haters and negativity and I think that is why his music is fun and entertaining. He is a motivated dude and a jack of all trades. He does his own graphic designs and photography. ( Hey its a recession for some folks, if you can do it yourself you better! LOL) He hit my up with three songs to review and they are as follow:

"I Never"
I am liking the mellow beat of this song. It almost sound like he is singing but he is not singing. It has a great flow. I am feeling the content. I am not the biggest fan of a lot of profanity being used but sometimes artist feel that is the best way to say what they got to say. The song is about not having all the money, diamonds and women in the beginning and how groupie chicks did not show him love. But when he came up they were sweating him. I like it, pretty dope song and track. Its the truth.

"Tokyo Drift Remix"
This song is fun and It is one of my favorite that I listened to. I have never heard the original song but it is a great up tempo joint. I call this happy music with all the sound effects. Different and fresh!

Hmmm this song is aight. I was not really feeling it for some reason but I am all about content and it did have a positive message but still talked about his foolishness. I feel like I have heard this song before and it did not stand out to me.

BWorldStar is a native of Nigeria and definitely have his very own unique sound and style. It is one that is memorable and none of this would be possible if it was not all for a dream. I mean this literally! I ask all of the artist that are featured what brought them into the music and to date BWorldStar has given me the most interesting answer. He said that he had a dream with 2pac in it. I was like really and so his interest in pursuing music was born.He came to the states for a better opportunity seven years ago and he might just find it. I have been to many studio sessions and I can not imagine how his sessions go, he is so laid back and reserved in person. BWorldStar has been making music since October of last year and has been strongly encouraged to pursue his love for music by his family and friends. Now it is time to receive my feedback as well as a bigger audiences point of view of his music. He gave me a CD full of music to check out but choose specifically four songs to be featured and two songs for review.

The first song is titled "My Motha" it is a tribute song and I like his singing voice.

The second song is one that is up for review, "Tennessee". This song is a returning champion song on Chattanooga's Street Flava on Power 94.3 WJTT and it is the best on the CD. I really enjoy his singing voice but I do not understand everything that is being said because his accent is so strong. I would hands down prefer to hear BWorldStar sing. I am not a fan of talking on a track when an artist is unknown. On this song he did not have to long of an intro. His tracks are simple but good and that is key in this business. He sounds like an elementary rapper because the verses are very rudimentary. They verses could have used more thought in the execution of the delivery.

The last reviewed track is "Wish Me Luck", a song about getting caught up in bad situations and letting people know its all good and it will work out just wish him luck. It is okay but I think he needs some work and need to have a better bridge. I do like how the song ended. In this song I feel like he should have talked about more and I would have like it better if he would have sang instead of rapped the song. When BWorldStar sings it makes it easier to understand the thick accent.

I will get to that in a minute but first lets find out more about who Judicial is...shall we. Judicial, government name Martin Francis has been doing his music thang since about 10 years old. Like most rappers he wanted to pursue other career options like being a ball player but realized he was skilled in music and is more interested in a rap career. I am not mad at him he has the skills to do so. He is originally from St. Thomas, V.I. by way of Orlando, FL. In 2004 he took a leap of faith and moved to the city where many artist have gotten their big break... ATL. Although that seems to be the melting pot for new and old artist I hope he does not get lost in the mix. So far so good. He has been doing open mics in the city and has created an undeniable buzz for himself. The streets are ready for more of what Judicial and the Home Team Music Group has to offer.

The featured song is "She Can Get It" featuring JC (from Block Ent). I know JC and when I said earlier that he was working with good people I meant that. I like the song but this sounds familiar like I have heard it before. It is a flattering song to the ear but I am sure if it is a chart topper. I think it is a good album song. JC is good on the vocals, ( I think I hear a lil bit of autotune being used). I like what is being said, the content is good and I like the versus. I just think it is missing something that make you want to sing along and remember the words. This is based on my opinion and this is the nature of this site to offer what I think and hopefully improve the artist. The production of the track and quality is superb. I give this one Nori. Keep grinding! Judicial potential is crazy hot!

I remember listening to these dudes a while back and thinking to myself they are pretty straight. They had a good sound, I could vibe to the beats and I could tell they were having a good time. Actually, having fun with the music and not afraid to experiment with new sounds. For those that don't know The Care Takuz is a group made up of two members that are destined to be great in this music industry! I like that they are a concrete group because anyone with ears that can hear can tell when you listen to their music they have a natural chemistry. So who are they you ask? Professor C & Big Mike Mic realized their talents at different times in their lives. Professor C started out as a producer and progressed into rapping in 2005. Big Mike Mic started flexing his producing skills back in 1999 and later in 2002 realized he had a true gift of music and could bless the mic with his raps.

They were a production team that decided to expand their sound and it worked out. Pretty much what ever you need they are trying to give to you, double threat to the game. Professor C is currently in between cities. You might catch him in Chattanooga you might catch him in Murfreesboro. He is a student at MTSU and his major is Recording Industry Management (RIM). Thats right have a fall back career folk music is not guaranteed but he is still in the music industry by all means... Kudos for that bruhh. Now that introductions are out of the way, lets get to the music. I asked them how would they describe their music and they said, "The music is distinguished reality music that has a urban pop feel.... just call it experimental hip-hop".

The Care Takuz are ready for the world and the first song I am reviewing is "Don't U Hate It" I tell you what I hate that into that is about 26 seconds long. Artist that are not known should get right to the songs! Other than that I really like the song and it is marketable. It is catchy and I found myself singing along to it immediately. It was easy to listen to and it is relevant... the things they were saying a person may hate was funny. The facebook comment was real. Take a listen to the song.

The next track they gave me is "Pose". Hands down when the beat dropped I figured I would like it cause it is very smooth. I love the melody of the song and I was like yeah thats right every dude should want a woman that step on the scene and pose for everyone to see. It is like they are telling a story with this song. Still to long of an intro for my liking. I would shorten it at least 15 seconds. Check it...

In my opinion they are doing a great job of showing they can make motivational music with "I Got U". I really liked the ad lib's and this song made me want to listen to see where the conversation was going. I am feeling this track and well..... ME LIKEY... :)

Okay I have a confession to make, when I saw the title of the last song for some reason I immediately thought of some nasty freaky song and I feel so bad. It is the total opposite and shame on me for having nasty thoughts. Now that that is out of the way the song "Bring It Back" is talking about nothing other than repping it for the city of Chatt-Town! It is this unspoken rule that rappers make songs to rep where they from and I like the concept of making money and bringing it back to the city where it all started. I like the horns on the production side of things. Here it is....

So in a Nutshell, The Care Takuz make good vibe music and I can get down with that on the real. I rate them 1 Nori! They have a couple of things to tweak but if they got a record deal today they would do just fine with some artist development!

Double the fun with Double E

Double E, Double E, Double E.... when I saw him for the first time I had to do a double take...lmao. I had to say that, lol the music is whats important right now and this man is on point when it comes to what new tracks he is releasing and message in his music. He has been in this business for a while and has wore many different hats in the industry. His flow is like his demeanor, very easy going. As busy as he always is, he finds the time to tell me what he is working on and why his music needs to reach the people. Its crazy how we first met because it was a shock for me and a scheduled interview for him. Now, keep in mind I do radio so I do not have to dress up for work so yep I was looking a mess. Nope he was not scheduled for the interview, he had actually brought a group to Chatt that he was managing and they had the interview....(that I did not know about...lol)! So imagine my surprise to find out DoubleE was an artist a few conversations later. I was not disappointed and you will not be either. The feature single is "Rain on Her". It has a upbeat tempo perfect for summer time fun and he is talking about of course making it rain on her. Not how you think, his lyrics are not harsh just flirtatious enough to make you feel sexy as a woman and want to listen for what he has to say next. This song is all about pleasing the ladies and making them feel appreciated by the end of the track.

The featured video is a different side of what he can do because he is also a conscience rapper. He embraces the truth that people are in need and they have to keep "Dreamin". I have to give it to him because he is making quality videos without a signed deal. When I first saw the video I was very impressed.
There is no telling where you will see him next because he stay doing shows all over. The last time I talked to him he was performing in Florida. I give his new single and video a NoriNori. Big ups to you for your grind ethics and determination. I was on his myspace and saw this number so I thought I would pass it along to you 504-208-4916. I have not called it so I have no idea if someone will answer or if it is a voicemail. Jus Sleep is the coolest reject that I know and I wouldn't have it any other way. I do not know exactly when the connection happened but it is one that was via a myspace fumble. I remember sitting at the radio station bored and getting a message that was something like check out my music. I was thinking booo here we go again but shhh why not, I have nothing to loose by listening to this looser. On the contrary he is neither a looser nor is he boring. I can't really put my finger on his sound but it is uniquely calculated and executed depending on how he is feeling at the moment. He puts me in the mind of a Talib Kweli and Kanye West when it comes to his lyrical content. Since that day I came across his page I have been a fan. I will go on record as saying I am Jus Sleep's #1 FAN in this bish ( I am sure his mom would argue me down that she is, she knows all his lyrics too, and let me not forget his lil boy. The featured song tonight is "Bills to Pay". Now me and Sleep went back and forth on this record because it is one that had to grow on me but it is fitting that I use this song because lets just be real we all got damn bills to pay. It is a song no matter your back ground that everyone can relate to. An interesting fact about him is that he is in the Army. Yes, he sampled Aretha Franklin and he killed the track. I remember the first time we ever spoke on the phone he called me and this man was in Iraq, that freaked me out. He is currently in Honduras and still working on his craft. Don't let this Army dude fool ya he is still recording and you can expect two new projects being released from him later this year around September. The highest rating that an artist can get on my blog is 2 Nori's and he has earned his NoriNori. This is only the beginning for Jus Sleep and with all due repect his black A@! better not forget about me when he makes it :)

The Legacy Lives on...

This first post is near and dear to my heart because of the odd circumstances that has made this story sad but true. A young man Robert Brown aka Brikk lost his life and his son Robert Brown Jr and a friend Devonte' Saddler aka Snake Eyes are carrying on the legacy of what his father started and group member Mobb aka Travis Moore. Pinney Woods is a group out of my hometown that recently signed a major deal with Universal and were in the beginning stages of promotions and album prep with two hot singles on the charts. "I Hate You" feat. The Game and "Be Alright" feat Lil Wayne. This is about the continuation of a Legacy that has been started and I definately think these cats got what it takes. The group name is Y.P.B. which stands for Young Paid Boys and they sent me two singles "Hoodstar" and "I'm trying to make it". Of the two songs hands down Hoodstar caught my attention first and I really like the feel of the beat and how the boys come on the song enthusiastic and engaging. They have a lot of work to do but they are starting early and they can work on their verbal skills and the execution of versus. Brikk Jr is 13 and Snake Eyes is 14. They are keeping alive the memory of a great man gone soon RIP Brikk. It is going to take some time but if they keep pushing and stay focused they have a bright future ahead of them. I wonder what will come of the Pinney Woods project and what decision were made on behalf of Universal but that is another story for another day. I give Y.P.B a work in progress rating and wish them the best!
